Wildflower Seed Collecting Course

Learn the techniques used for wildflower seed collecting across the Forest of Flowers, while picking your own seeds to take home at no extra cost.

Time & Location

Aug 29, 2026, 1:30 PM – 5:00 PM

Forest of Flowers, Home Farm, Tollerton Road, York YO61 1JB, UK

About the event

At the Forest of Flowers we have sown 100 acres of wildflower meadows and have over 150 plant species on-site. Each year we collect and sell seeds from the site, allowing us to fundraise for our conservation work, and enable others to grow their own wildflowers.

In this event, Alwyn Craven, founder of the Forest of Flowers in Huby, York, will showcase our seed collecting techniques while giving you the chance to try it yourself by gathering seeds from our meadows. You will be able to take your seed home with you at no extra cost, for sowing yourself or to give as a gift.

Together we will look at:

  • Wildflower species identification after going to seed

  • Responsible seed collecting techniques, including avoiding disruption/damage to the plant and the wider area

  • Seed cleaning and storage
