About the event
The Forest of Flowers has a fantastic array of nocturnal wildlife which we hope to showcase during a guided twilight walk. We will have experts on hand to lead discussions on the wide range of species we find. These will include:
Bats - Expert Paul Bamber will lead our guided walk at dusk as we experience the bats coming out for the night. We will visit parts of the habitat including woodland, wildflower meadows and ponds, all of which offer a feast of insects for bats, providing the perfect opportunity to catch a glimpse of these wonderful creatures. We'll also be using bat detectors to pick up their sonar frequency and identify the species.
Moths - This summer we have recorded over 80 moth species of all shapes and sizes. With the help of local expert Michele Beverley, we will set up a moth trap which harmlessly attracts moths using a bright light. We will then be able to look through the colourful and fascinating array of species together.
Owls - We have lots of owls nesting in our woodland, including tawny and barn owls. We'll be listening out for them at the event and we may even see some in flight.
We'll have hot drinks in our orchard area afterwards, with the chance to chat to our experts and listen out for more wildlife! We hope you can join us for a fantastic evening of nature watching.
- The terrain is uneven and we will be walking in low light levels.
- Please bring your own torch if possible, but ideally no head torches or very bright lights. We will be keeping torchlight to a minimum to enhance the nature experience and help our eyes adjust to darkness, however you may need a torch at certain points in the evening.
- Walking boots or wellies are highly recommended.
- In case of rain, we may cancel the event and refund tickets.
About Forest of Flowers
The Forest of Flowers project has created 74 acres of woodland and wildflower meadows plus 17 ponds, with the sole aim to provide a thriving natural sanctuary for wildlife.
The land, previously a mixed arable and sheep farm, was re-purposed in 2016 when over 42,000 trees and shrubs were planted, alongside 35 native wildflower species. This is part of a vision to create a thriving ecosystem to benefit pollinators, birds and a diverse range of native wildlife.
The project also supports:
- Carbon capture to reduce the effects of climate change.
- Prevention of flooding in the local area.
- UK wildflower population, providing seeds from the meadows to other sites nationwide.
By purchasing a ticket you are helping to fund our project and further conservation work. Thank you!

"Thank you for a most enjoyable, relaxing, varied and informative event. It was a very special, unique and memorable afternoon. The structure was excellent as it was so varied and the activities linked together so well. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived and the setting under the gazebo in the orchard was absolutely perfect... and your friendly cat was an added bonus!" - August 2022
"From our perspective it was just the right balance, giving people a chance to learn, share their stories, mix with others, ask questions. As always, your knowledge and enthusiasm shone through and I’m sure everyone found the afternoon useful and interesting." - August 2022
