About the event
A guided walk with Alwyn Craven around the Forest of Flowers nature reserve, taking in large areas of new woodland undersown with wildflowers. Â
Over the past five years, 74 acres of arable and grassland at Home Farm have been transformed into new native woodland. Much of this was achieved using the innovative process of inverting the topsoil, followed by sowing wildflowers amongst the newly planted trees. Â
During the walk, visitors will see large areas of wildflower habitat and woodland planted between 2016 and 2017. You will also get to see 13 new ponds which were created in 2020/2021. Â While getting up close to the trees and wildflowers, Alwyn will talk about his motivations, the process of establishing the new woodland, grants and funding opportunities, and plans for future management and use. Alwyn will also provide information and guidance to help identify the wildflowers and trees.Â
Our walk will be approximately 2-3 miles through flat but uneven terrain - Â we recommend sturdy/waterproof footwear such as walking boots.
After the walk, there will be refreshments provided and an opportunity to ask further questions.
Tickets are limited and booking is essential.
