About the event
Join us as we explore the Forest of Flowers with the help of our butterfly surveyor Jess Chappell, offering identification tips and a wealth of knowledge. We'll also showcase a wide selection of fascinating and colourful moths, with the chance to see them up-close.
Thanks to the 100 acres of wildflower meadows and woodland habitat created here, the Forest of Flowers is home to a large number of butterflies. Between 2020 - 2025, we had the highest number of butterfly sightings of all sites surveyed in Yorkshire - over 3,000 butterflies on average each year across 27 different species.
At this time of year, we expect to see a wide range of species, including:
Ringlet
Meadow brown
